Sunday 17th January Father Simon Returns....with a friend. Alastar handed out mini koalas to all! Welcome back Father Simon!

Wednesday 17th February Its Ash Wednesday! and after a wonderful service with excellent liturgy and music comes the cheese and soup.

Sunday 14th March - Its Mothering Sunday! As usual, after the Service had finished, mothers, grandmothers, fathers and grandfathers ( and everyone else!) were treated to Daffodils.

Friday 23rd April 2010 -  St Matthew’s rooms saw the first of this year’s Quiz nights. We first enjoyed Father Simon’s lovely restaurant style fish and chips, and after a quick wash and dry, we then saw the creation of teams which took part.


After a number of rounds the winners were Graham Duncan, David Oatley and Peter Hegginbottom’s team.

They won a bottle of something nice.


The losers, a team called ‘The Hopefuls’! won the wooden spoon and now have to be the quiz masters for the next quiz.

Sunday 2nd May - The sky was dark outside, but in St Matthew’s hall saw our usual “bring and share” parish lunch. But like all good christians..... we waited till Father Simon said grace.

Tuesday 11th May - Father simon, Pat West, Eve McQuater and David Lodge travelled to see Hilda on her birthday. They presented her with a bottle of sherry and a birthday cake

Sunday 31st May - Happy Birthday to Eve MvQuater who is 80 today! after attending the Trinity Sunday service, we all came through to the rooms to sing Happy Birthday to a wonderful lady and of course enjoyed a class of wine and tasty cake!

Sunday 6th June - Happy Birthday to St Matthews! we are 155 and Father Simon and Father Watson wore Father Ommanney’s vestments.

Sunday 11th July - St Matthew’s welcomed Father Phillip Bewley who comes all the way from Surfcoast Parish in the Diocese of Melbourne Australia. Father Simon had his sabbatical at Fr Phillips parish last December. More HERE

Sunday 18th July - St Matthew’s said goodbye to Father Philip in its usual fashion, chat & coffee (and something a bit stronger!). Father Philip also surprised us by presenting Father Simon with paintings by Ray Woods.

We wish Father Philip a safe journey home and our peace and blessings to the congregations of Surfcoast.
